History of the library

History of the library of NJSC “KazNMU named after. S.D. Asfendiyarov” begins with the opening of the medical institute in 1931, with an initial fund of about 6,000 thousand copies.

The library’s mission is aimed at providing support for the educational process and scientific research in an educational institution by creating the necessary conditions for prompt access to library resources and world information resources.

The library is a member of the Library Association of University Libraries of the Republic of Kazakhstan, takes part in international and regional conferences, seminars, and meetings.

The library’s collection contains more than 1,424,050 copies of literature, these are books, dissertations, abstracts, periodicals; of which in the state language, in Russian, in foreign languages, incl. electronic literature fund.

Every year, the library collection receives scientific and educational publications on medicine on paper and electronic media. The library subscribes annually to about 150 titles of Kazakhstani and foreign newspapers and magazines. Also most fully represented in the fund are monographs, textbooks and teaching aids, dissertations and abstracts of dissertations of the teaching staff of KazNMU named after. S.D. Asfendiyarov. Among which should be noted the works of academicians Sharmanov T.Sh., Akanov A.A., Ormantaev K.S. and others. Also in the library’s collections are widely represented monographs and scientific works, textbooks and teaching aids of Kazakh and foreign scientists, periodicals, materials of international and national congresses, congresses, conferences, works of scientific institutes and societies, abstracts of dissertations, translations of articles from foreign journals, reference publications and medical dictionaries.
